Christmas Time

The Holidays kept us very busy this year. We both have had a long break from work and school so we went back home to Enterprise for Christmas and will be heading back again for New Year's. We were able to spend time with both of our families. Colten and I got an awesome keyboard for Christmas. We both play the piano and realized that for a long time we won't be able to afford a real piano so a keyboard is going to have to work. We love it. Colten gave me two concert tickets to the "Artist of the Decade (Honoring George Strait) ACM Awards." I am looking forward to that come April. I gave Colten a bunch of little stuff he wanted like books, shorts, and a couple shirts. Here a just a few pictures of our Christmas.

Cookie Recipe. YUM!

Meag, do you remember making these cookies at your house all the time? They are my favorite cookies.

2 cups of butter
4 cups of flour
2 tsp soda
2 cups sugar
5 cups oatmeal (blended)
24 oz choc. chips
2 cups brown sugar
1 tsp salt
1 8 oz. Hershey bar (grated)
4 eggs
2 tsp baking powder
3 cups chopped nuts
2 tsp vanilla

Measure oatmeal and in a blender, blend to a fine powder. Cream the butter and both sugars. Add eggs and vanilla; mix together with flour, oatmeal, salt, baking powder, and soda. Add chocolate chips, Hershey bar and nuts. Roll into balls and place two inches apart on a cookie sheet. Bake for 10 minutes at 375 degrees. Makes 112 cookies.

17 More Days!

Christmas is almost here! The last couple of weeks we have been getting ready for Christmas. Well, I have been decorating and for a long time now we have been finished with our Christmas shopping. I went into Walmart in the middle of the afternoon on Saturday in St. George and it drove me crazy. There were so many people shopping, I couldn't stand it. I am just really glad we are finished.

We had a great time over Thanksgiving and it was nice for both of us to have a break from school. We were with my family in St. George for Thanksgiving dinner and then on Friday went to get Christmas trees. On Saturday and Sunday we were able to spend some time with Colten's family. That is one nice thing about being from the same town, we get to see both sides of the family... as well as have to agree on where we are staying, and who to eat dinner with, and this and that. :) It usually all works out pretty good. Here are some pictures of the last couple of weeks.

Saturday

Yesterday we went up to Cedar for the day. One of our good friends is pregnant and so we put on baby shower for her. While all the girls were at the shower the boys went and played football. Then we went and watched the Utah/BYU game. It was so much fun being back up in Cedar with all of our friends. It made me sad to have to leave. It was so much fun living in Cedar last year where there were so many young couples like ourselves. But we are happy here and are slowly making more and more friends.

Here are some pictures of yesterday.

Yummy cookies that I made. I will post the recipe later.

Bantam Wrestling

I love Fridays. Today Hurricane's Football team played in the State Championship game against Juan Diego at Rice Eccles Stadium. Sadly, they lost 21-18 in a close fought game. The game started at 10:30 this morning so today at the Middle School, we mostly just watched the game during classes. I was lucky enough to have lunch and Prep during the 2nd half of the game so I didn't have to worry about being a teacher. I went into the shop teachers classroom and watched the game with him and his students. It was fun to just had a nice layed back day at school for the teachers and the students. It was also a nice day because I only had 1/2 my students in class. The rest were up in SLC watching the game. I had 28 out of 58 students in my 1st period and then 24 out of 49 in my 2nd hour. It made me wish I had that few of students everyday.

Because so many students were gone, and 7 out of 10 girls on my basketball team were up at the game, we didn't have basketball practice after school. I decided I was going to make cookies for my friend's baby shower tomorrow morning. While I was home baking cookies and cleaning house (like a good wife would do) Colten was gone to wrestling practice and then they had a bantam tournament for the little guys that Colten had to help with. Which is why I am posting this blog anyways after going to the high school to watch them. I have decided that I don't think I want my little boys to wrestle when they are young. Almost every other kid that wrestled ran off the mat crying to their parents. I know if my boys ever did that I would be embarrassed that they are wimps. No, I don't really know how I would feel, but I can only imagine that those boys who run off crying end up not liking the sport of wrestling. Being married to a former state champion wrestler, I am pretty sure that he is going to want his boys to like wrestling. So my whole point is that Bantam Wrestling is only for extremely tough kids or for future basketball players. :)

Here are some pictures of Colten refereeing the matches. I didn't have my camera with me but this was such a "bloggable moment" I took them on my cell phone.

Twilight

Are the books really that good? :)
I am not quite finished with Breaking Dawn yet, but they have kept my interest so far. I am also excited to see the movie but I probably won't be the type to go wait in line for tickets on opening night. Do you think I can drag Colten to go with me sometime?
The quiz tells me that I am Esme, the motherly type I guess (just not a mother yet!) Who are you?

I'm a Esme! I found out through TwilightersAnonymous.com. Which Twilight Female Are You? Take the quiz and find out!

I made Colten take the dumb quiz and he is Jacob! Are you serious? I don't like Jacob. I guess we aren't really a good match for each other.

What Happens in Vegas...

... stays in Vegas!

This past weekend some of our friends from Cedar came down to our house on Friday evening to spend the night. Then on Saturday we made plans to go down to Las Vegas to spend the day and go do a temple session.

We all had to try on Colten's "shapkas" from his mission.

These are two pictures from Fremont Street.

But the best part of the whole day was being able to go to the temple. We had great time there and it's amazing the difference from being in the temple and then being in the rest of the "world".

State Champions!

I am finally a State Champion! This time I was an assistant coach instead of a player, but it still feels pretty exciting.

The volleyball team I helped coach at Hurricane High School won their first ever state championship. It was so awesome! They had an amazing tournament not even losing a single game in a match. The beat out #1 ranked Morgan in the Semi-finals match and #2 ranked Carbon in the Finals.

All of the girls did an amazing job. I am so proud of them!

WAY TO GO TIGERS!

Below are the 3 female coaches on the staff. We were way excited and had to have our moment with the trophy! Coach Rayla, Coach Krista and Me.

New Fun Things For Our House

Recently Colten and I have gotten a few new items for our house. Not all of it is brand new but it is new to us.

Last spring when we got our economic stimlus check, we decided to put that money toward a computer and desk, since all we had was a hand-me-down lap top. As soon as we got our check we then decided to move in with parents for the summer to save some money since we were going to move from Cedar to Hurricane so we didn't buy our computer. Finally, once we got moved in, in our house in La Verkin we decided we could get our computer. So this is a picture of our computer and computer desk. We both love it!

Then I have an aunt that just moved out of their home in Las Vegas to a cabin in Pine Valley and they were just going to store their entertainment center because they didn't have enough room. But then she offered it to us. It is very beautiful and we feel lucky to have gotten it from her. Thanks Aunt LuAnn!

And the last thing to add to our house are new bar stools. I found them at a garage sale and they are in great condition. I think I might redo the white and paint it black to match our kitchen appliances but I don't know yet.

Tagged!

I already did on of these a long time ago, but I have been tagged twice now to do this so here it is...

1. Where did you meet your husband? Preschool,... I think.

2. How long did you date before you got married? Oh boy... 3 and 1/2 years before the mission. I wrote faithfully every week for 2 years while he was on his mission. Then we got married 3 1/2 months later. So if all of that counts then... just shy of 6 years.

3. How long have you been married? 1 year and 5 months

4. What does he do that surprises you? Makes the bed every morning! :)

5. What is your favorite feature of his? His ruggedly handsome good looks and of course how smart he is. He is a TDH (tall, dark and handsome)!!

6. What is your favorite quality about him? Colten is very optimistic. He is always so positive about everything and very supportive of me.

7. Does he have a nick name for you? Babe or Meg

8. What is his favorite food? Steak or any kind of meat.

9. What is his favorite sport? Wrestling.

10. When and where did you first kiss? On October 6, 2001 after the Sadie Hawkins dance on the front porch of his house.

11. What is your favorite thing to do as a couple? Cuddle on the couch and watch a good movie. We also love to play games together.

12. Do you have children? Nope

13. Does he have any hidden talents? Yes, there are just too many to list.

14 How old is he? 23

15. Who said I love you first? That would be him but I really wanted to!!! We were in my parents driveway the night before I left to go to college.

17. What do you admire most about him? I admire his optimism and knowledge about lots of things especially the gospel.

18. What is favorite color? Red
